Solo Italiano is on Commercial Street in Portland, focused on Northern Italian cooking from the Genoa region. Chef Paolo Laboa, who won Italy's Best Young Chef award in 1992 and the Pesto World Championship in 2008, runs the kitchen.
Breads and pastas are made from scratch daily using traditional Genovese recipes, and the sourcing runs local wherever it can: produce from Stonecipher Farm, Dandelion Spring Farm, and Olivia's Garden, mushrooms from local foragers, fish from Harbor Fish Market and Browne Trading Co., and meat from Valley View Farm and Farmer's Gate. The approach favors simple preparations that let each ingredient come through on its own.
In 2025, Gambero Rosso International awarded the restaurant its Due Forchette (two forks) rating.
