DAY OF SHOW: $25 (+ fees) Equal Measure Arts (EMA) presents an evening at One Longfellow Square showcasing the emerging artists and stories at the heart of its work. Join us on Saturday, October 3, for performances from… Jaylen White, an up-and-coming R&B artist and EMA Junior Engineer from Westbrook, Maine, returning to One Longfellow Square with his live band Jennifer Talon, a 16-year-old singer-songwriter currently recording her debut EP with support from EMA, giving her first-ever live performance with a full band Hazel Mae, a folk singer-songwriter and Program Director of local nonprofit DocSong, sharing documentary songs created in collaboration with community storytellers. This showcase highlights the impact of storytelling through song, and celebrates the music made possible through access to recording, mentorship, and creative collaboration. Equal Measure Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based at [the square], a recording studio in Portland, Maine. Founded in 2024, EMA makes professional music production and audio engineering training more accessible to students and under-resourced musicians through mentorship, subsidized recording time, and hands-on studio experience. Its partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local artists create opportunities to develop skills, record original work, and share stories through music. That commitment to artist development extends to EMA’s home at [the square], which has supported One Longfellow Square’s LEAF fellowship since its launch in 2026. Jaylen White: Jaylen White has been involved with EMA since its founding in 2024. He began a studio internship while completing his undergraduate degree in Commercial Music at Tiffin University. After graduation, he returned to his hometown of Westbrook and became one of EMA’s first Junior Engineers, running recording sessions at Monaco Studios and [the square] while receiving mentorship to develop his skills as a musician and producer. In spring of 2026, he helped open Portland’s first All Roads Music Festival with a set at One Longfellow Square. Jaylen’s brand of R&B blends smooth melodies and honest storytelling into a sound that feels fresh, personal, and easy to connect with. He returns to One Longfellow Square for this EMA Showcase with a full live band. Instagram Jennifer Talon Jennifer Talon is a 16-year-old singer-songwriter based in Moultonborough, NH. Drawing on indie, pop, and alternative influences, she has developed a discerning ear for production, applying her skills on guitar, violin, and piano to compose original songs. After earning opportunities through open mics and songwriting competitions, she has been steadily building a following with captivating live performances across New England. Over this past summer, Jennifer has been rooting into the Portland music scene through events organized by [the square] and Creative Portland, where she opened for Cilla Bonnie and Primo Cubano. She recently finished production on her first single, “Fairweather Friend,” recorded at Monaco Studios with support from Equal Measure Arts, and is currently working on her debut EP. Jennifer makes her One Longfellow Square debut at this showcase, performing her songs with a full backing band for the first time. Instagram Hazel Mae Hazel Mae is a folk singer-songwriter based in Portland. Raised in Camden, she began playing guitar at six years old and has been performing ever since. Drawing inspiration from Joni Mitchell, The Chicks, and Indigo Girls, her music blends folk, indie-folk, and bluegrass with a focus on storytelling. In addition to her work as a performer and songwriter, Hazel serves as Program Director for the local nonprofit DocSong. As a Teaching Artist trained in its documentary songwriting method, she collaborates with storytellers to create original songs based on their lived experiences. She has led songwriting sessions in programs serving New Mainers, domestic violence survivors, and incarcerated individuals. Several of these songs are now being developed into professional studio recordings with support from EMA. Her documentary songwriting work also includes a song for a documentary film through the High Mountain Institute and contributions to the #SongsofMeToo project. Hazel is preparing to release her first EP, and makes her One Longfellow Square debut at this showcase. Instagram
