Maine Coast Life's 2026 Guide to Music Festivals
Festivals serve an array of purposes; you can see a rotation of killer acts without leaving your picnic blanket (unless you need another beer, of course), you can discover new bands without relying on a Spotify algorithm, and you can dig up your hacky sack and hula hoop and go full hippie-mode against the backdrop of live music.
Maine is a hub for creativity, so it’s no shock that the best independent artists have added Portland as a stop on their tours. With numerous festivals spanning the summer season, you have a chance to catch many of these acts in a friendly atmosphere fueled by local food, craft drinks, and die-hard music fans.
Whether you’re looking to pitch a tent and fall asleep to the twang of banjos or you’re a sucker for cheap beer and raucous clubs, there’s a festival out there for you.

All Roads Music Festival (May 15-16)
In line with the city’s hardcore dedication to independent music, the All Roads Music Festival turns Portland into a playground for fanatics of up-and-coming artists. With so many venues showcasing the best bands on the modern indie circuit, you literally need a map to ensure you don’t miss a note.
State Theatre acts as the flagship location for performances and events, but venues across the Arts District are involved as well, including One Longfellow Square, SPACE Gallery, Portland Museum of Art, Geno’s Rock Club, Oxbow Blending & Bottling, Mechanics’ Hall, Portland House of Music, Flask, and Blue Portland Maine.
The festival heavily emphasizes local artists, from the Nashville-fried country of Adele Edelawait, the indie-pop stylings of Genevieve Stokes, and the roaring punk energy of theWorst. National touring artists grace the Portland stages as well, such as Mon Rovia from Liberia, Touching Ice from Los Angeles, and Sister Ray from Alberta, Canada.

Portland Bach Experience 2026 (May 28-June 7)
Approaching their decennial, the Portland Bach Experience lends exposure to the ubiquitous influence of classical music. Favoring a modern approach to the concert experience, the festival (run by Classical Uprising) promotes several supplemental events to expand the reach of classical music through wildly imaginative experiences that cater to new listeners and devoted fans alike.
Organizers have brought classical music to some of the most unlikely spaces. Over the years, they’ve hosted listening parties in unorthodox venues such as bowling alleys, yoga studios, and breweries in an attempt to marry this timeless genre with modern activities. The Bach Experience also hosts numerous child-friendly events like “The Nutcracker Experience,” “Stories & Songs with Lute,” and “Ice Cream Concerts.”
Resurgam Music & Arts Festival (June 13-14)
Spearheaded by the Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM), and supported by the city of Portland and local community business partners, the Resurgam Music & Arts Festival is the largest of its kind in Maine. This two-day event is free to all those looking to immerse themselves in Maine’s most creative epicenters.
Over one weekend in June, the festival hosts shows in the Old Port and at Ocean Gateway. The festival showcases local musicians who have some tie to the MAMM, whether as students or instructors. This year’s festival will close with a performance from Portland-based singer-songwriter King Kyote at Live at Madrid’s, a new venue on Fore Street.

Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festival (June 18-21; August 27-30)
The Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festival is about as grassroots as you can get. Located at the Litchfield Fairgrounds, the event is about an hour north of Portland. If you make the trek, you can set up camp — literally — for the whole weekend.
The four-day festival showcases acts from all across the East Coast, including local favorites like the Hemingway Brothers, Katahdin Valley Boys, and, of course, the Blistered Fingers Band. In addition to the immersive concert experience, the event also hosts the Blistered Fingers Kids Academy. Children ages 6-18 get the opportunity to bring their instruments up to the camp and learn how to play, sing, and perform bluegrass music from the pros. The program ends with a chance for the new generation of bluegrass players to join the performers on the main stage and gain an authentic, live performing experience.

Bowdoin International Music Festival (June 29 - August 7)
In the heart of summer, Brunswick transforms into a mecca for some of the most renowned conservatories and ensembles in the world. The Bowdoin International Music Festival, taking place at the eponymous college campus, showcases dozens of faculty and visiting artists performing innovative new chamber works and old favorites.
Attendees can also witness performances, masterclasses, and community events starring students of the college. See the musical leaders of tomorrow as they develop the critical live experience to continue the tradition of chamber music.
The festival includes numerous ticketed events and community concerts, as well as the three-day Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music.
North Atlantic Blues Festival (July 11-12)
Don’t miss one of the most prestigious blues festivals on the East Coast. Located in Rockland, Maine, the North Atlantic Blues Festival continues a 30-plus-year tradition of showcasing the finest contemporary blues musicians, including Memphis Lightning, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Eliza Neals, and Roomful of Blues.
Festival-goers can purchase tickets for individual shows or dedicate the whole weekend to “club hopping” around Rockland’s main street. Catch acts at Ada’s Kitchen, Park Street Grille, Myrtle Street Tavern, and more. If you’re looking for a little ambiance while you drink in the blues, you can catch live bands on the Morning in Maine Sunset Cruise, a charter taking travelers across the pristine Penobscot Bay.
Ossipee Valley Music Festival (July 23-27)
At the Ossipee Valley Music Festival, attendees soak in the unbeatable combination of warm summer nights and music-filled campgrounds. This multi-day event showcases local and international bands across genres including bluegrass, roots, Americana, blues, and folk. Grab a bite at one of the food trucks, swing your partner at a barn dance, or become one with yourself during a yoga and meditation session.
Catch a variety of acts on the main stage, including Spencer and the Walrus, Damn Tall Buildings, Punch Brothers, the Brothers Comatose, and others. For those looking to escape the heat, or be closer to the music (literally), Stage TOO! provides an intimate showcase under shaded trees, making it the perfect listening room for the great outdoors.
Make yourself at home at a tented campsite, rough it in style in an RV, or retreat to one of many local inns. Of course, kids are always welcome for a true family-friendly experience.

Guster’s On The Ocean (August 7-9)
Locals are already gearing up for one of the most anticipated events of the year. On The Ocean is a three-day-long festival hosted by Guster, one of New England’s most beloved alternative rock bands.
The festival starts off with Guster sharing the stage with the Portland Symphony Orchestra at Merrill Auditorium. Then, the band takes over Thompson’s Point for a two-night stand. Like most events at Portland’s most iconic outdoor venue, there will be food trucks, craft beer vendors, and plenty of space for the little ones to play or sprawl out on a blanket for some RnR — whether “rest and relaxation” or “rock and roll” is up to you!
The festival also features “On the Ocean Adventures,” an exclusive opportunity to hang out with fellow Guster fans on sea cruises, kayak trips, and bike tours. Tickets sell out quickly (trust us, we are not just saying that), so get them early and enjoy a weekend on the water with the legends themselves!
